Punch Designs skates to victory yet again.

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Pleased as “punch” am I to announce that I won another t-shirt design competition. This time it was for a kick-ass roller derby outfit called, the Durango Roller Girls that hails from up Colarado way.

As a former avid quad skater (got the fake tooth and the broken wrist to prove it!) and a fan of Austin’s roller derby scene I am pumped to be their choice illustrator for the new Durango Roller Girls merch shirt.

If’n I can find the time this summer I’m going to hop on my little motorcycle and road trip up to Durango to watch these ladies play.

Sweep the legs, Pee Wee!

I’ve been getting a fair bit of t-shirt illustration work as of late. As a result I’ve been working on improving my ability to drawing with limited colors that need to be isolated for screen printing.

This illustration was a fun little 4 color job for purple shirt that I did as an homage to the 80′s. I experimented with custom brushes I built in Adobe Illustrator to emulate a stipple effect.

The drawing features 80′s heavyweight icons: Pee Wee Herman, the Karate Kid (The original one – Sorry, Jaden), Cyndi Lauper, Teen Wolf, Arnold, Spudz McKenzie, Ghostbuster Peter Venkman, Alf, Max Headroom, Johnny 5, Lo Pan, the time traveling Delorian and Kitt. I think this brawl actually happened outside the Danceteria in 1986. Google it!
